Year 6 / Year 7 Transition

The school attracts students from across and beyond our catchment area and whilst we are currently over-subscribed we can currently assure the vast majority of parents that their child will get a place with us.

Feeder Primary Schools

The current Year 7 entered the school from over 30 different primary schools but despite some individual and pairs from some schools they have all settled in very well indeed.

The largest feeder primary schools are usually Christchurch, St Stephen’s (Fradley), Chadsmead, Willows and Henry Chadwick (Hill Ridware).

Primary Liaison

The school runs a large primary liaison programme which seeks to enable primary students to have taster of secondary life so that they are better prepared for the move at the end of Year 6.

Recent activities have included masterclasses, art projects, performing arts events, sports sessions, MFL taster sessions, etc.

Transition

The school takes the Y6-Y7 transition very seriously and is highly aware that it is important to put all of the students at ease through what is a very nerve-wracking experience.

All students have taster days in the preceding Summer Term, there is an information evening for parents, and targeted visits take place for lone or more vulnerable students.

Additionally, staff visit local primary schools throughout the year and gather information from Y6 teachers so that we are as aware of possible of the individual needs of every student.
