After the recent Cannock and District Athletics events at Aldersley Stadium, eight pupils from Year 7 and 8 qualified to represent Staffordshire at the County Championships.

 

Amongst many highlights, Ellie Irvine’s (Y7) high jump cleared 1.15m to finish 6th. Annie Evans (Y8) threw three discus and her first attempt gained herself the bronze medal. Aimee Irvine, Lewis Snowden and Lauren Thacker all qualified for the 200m final.

 

However, the most plaudits went to Georgia Griffiths in the 1500m. who walked away with a gold medal – a massive 15 seconds ahead of her nearest rival.

 

Hollie Wright, PE teacher and team coach, said: “We are immensely proud to be able to see our students showing off their talents at a county competition and we can expect to see further successes in years to come.”
