Our final round of the House Debating Competition saw Year 7 debate the theme of: ‘Racism is not a problem in modern Britain.’ This topic was part of our Focus Week commemorating Windrush Day

The debates were judged by our School Librarian Helena Creswell, School Governor Ann Carlisle, and Greywood Trustee Gill Stockdale.

Johnson House won the competition with their team of Iago Navio, Roxanna Clarke, Isabelle Cantrill and Larna Downie really excelling. The final scores were:

1st Place: Johnson with 50 points
2nd Place: Garrick with 42 points
3rd Place: Darwin with 41 points
4th Place: Seward with 38 points

Meanwhile, Iago Navio was also awarded ‘Most Valuable Debater’ alongside Ethan Hunt (Darwin).

Helena Cresswell, School Librarian, said: “This was the first time that most of the students had taken part in a debate and they should be very proud of themselves. It was a difficult topic to debate but our Year 7 students impressed us with their confidence and amount of research undertaken. Well done to all the students who took part in the debates.”
