Despite appalling weather conditions, our Y8 boys football team ran out 6-0 winners over Cannock High and have now booked their place in the final against Cardinal Griffin.

The Friary started the game very well scoring early through George Burgess with a great right footed strike. A second soon followed, a good corner in from Harry Owen was headed into their own net by a Cannock High defender.

Junior Makokowe scored a great goal with a left footed shot from the edge of the area to make it 3-0. Friary kept on the front foot and after some great link up from the forwards we added a fourth, a ball pulled back to Harley Carson who excellently finished it across the opposition goalkeeper. George Burgess added a fifth just before half time.

In the second half Friary continued to play some exceptional football that they should take into the final. George Burgess completed his hat trick 10 minutes before the end of the game.

Jamie Sleigh, PE Teacher and team coach, said: “This was a superb performance and the whole team played their part. Even so, the Player of the Match Award had to go to George Burgess for three well-taken goals and hard work from start to finish.”
