We were thrilled with our Year 8 boys – several who play for Lichfield RUFC – who represented The Friary at a fantastic 7s tournament staged at King Edwards.

The team played superbly – with big hits, hard rugby and with tries from Jack Harrison, George Worth and Jonah Birchall.

The whole tournament was a great success with strong teams from King Edwards, Kingsmead, Chase Terrace and Cheslyn Hay teams.

Jamie Sleigh, PE teacher and team coach, said: “Our Year 8s should be very proud of themselves. We had a mixed bag team – with some Lichfield RUFC players, and others new to the competitive game, but they all put on a great show.  Huge mentions to Jack Harrison and Oliver Ratchford-Smith who were excellent and got mentions from other players and parents asking which club they’re at. In fact, both only come to school training and have worked hard in our rugby club to improve on their game. This is what school sport is all about and it was great to see the buzz around fixtures, wanting to represent the Friary and improving their performance in sport.”
