We saw another great House Week with Garrick House students raising money and collecting food donations for their chosen house charity Lichfield Food Bank.

There were a wide range of fund-raising activities and initiatives through the week including:

  • a cake sale (thanks to parents and students who got baking)
  • a tombola
  • a ‘selfie mirror’ for students to get photos with their friends.

Elsewhere there were a string of House competitions. These included a competition to plan the best cost-effective meal which was won by Emme Derrick (8S1). A shark art competition – after the Garrick Shark emblem – which was won by Erin O’Neil (7J2). Finally, there was a fund-raising competition to raise the biggest total to get a chosen teacher to dress as the Garrick Shark for the day and this saw Mr Millward don the costume for a day’s teaching.

Even more activities came from the sports arena, where Mr Sleigh, members of his form and the Garrick House Sports Captains organised Inter-House dodgeball, basketball and badminton competitions.

Finally, a dunk the teacher fund-raising scheme saw Head of House, Mr Cartner, and House tutor, Ms Fletcher, stand up and be soaked by students – all in the name of Lichfield Food Bank. This project saw both teachers and students donating to ‘support’ Mr Cartner.

Steve Cartner, Head of House, said: “The donated food has been delivered to the Food Bank and they were very grateful for the kind donations. Once we have collected all the money from the sponsored walk, and put it with the rest, we will then be sending it on to them so they can spend it on those in the greatest need. Again, thank you to everyone who donated food, cakes, chocolate or time to making it a great week.”
