The Yoto Carnegie Greenaway Medals are the UK’s longest running and best-loved children’s book awards and recognise outstanding reading experiences created through writing and illustration in books for children and young people.

This year our student Book Club is shadowing the process by reviewing the short-listed books and judging what book they consider to be the ‘winner’.

Nicola Burdett, School Librarian, said: “We will read, discuss and review the books and then vote for our favourite book to win the ‘Shadowers’ Choice Awards’, which are announced alongside the medal winners in June.”

Carrie Cain, Deputy Headteacher, said: “We always place a great emphasis on encouraging reading so profiling these awards and making all students aware is an important step to generating enthusiasm and interest. There is no doubt that reading has a major impact on exam success and is a great activity for mental health and well-being so we’d advise everyone to check out the awards and get reading.”
