The annual Schools Speaking Competition, orchestrated by local Rotary Club, Michael Fabricant MP, and sponsored by Arthur Price of England, roared back on Friday night after COVID scuppered the last two years competitions.
This year’s debating topic was connected to the pros and cons of social media and the competition saw debating teams from the Friary School, Nether Stowe, King Edwards and Lichfield Cathedral School produce excellent arguments and presentations.
The Friary team was made up of Isabel Smith, Mollie Jones and Matt Sykes and though Nether Stowe squeaked home as winners they did the school proud at the Guildhall event in the city centre.
The judging panel was made up of local councillors, including the Sheriff and Mayor of Lichfield, as well as Simon Price of Arthur Price (who remain a fantastic supporter of our school).
Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “There was a very high quality to the arguments laid out from both perspectives and all the teams acquitted themselves very well. We thoroughly enjoyed taking part and the event came back as the traditional success.”
