Love was well and truly in the air when we celebrated St Valentine’s Day throughout the last week of the half term. All of us broke up with a warm glow in our hearts after taking time to celebrate our friendships and the people we care about most.

Themed assemblies taught pupils about the history and origins of Valentine’s day whilst also making links to our Friary Ethic and the importance of resilience and friendship. In lessons, there were themed activities including singing and poetry writing in French, baking Valentine themed deserts and chocolates in Food, and a Valentine escape room as part of a non-fiction reading activity in English, to name but a few.

Our library provided an opportunity for a ‘blind date’ with a book by wrapping up mystery titles on the very eye-catching Valentine book shelves encouraging readers of all ages to get involved.

Breaks and lunchtimes saw Mrs Hearn sharing her ‘Wheel of Love’ where pupils came in their droves to discover what the future may hold for their own Valentine. In reality, the big box of sherbet Love Hearts might have had a little something to do with its popularity.

One of the best activities during the week, was the giving and receiving of hundreds of Valentines themed praise postcards. Teachers praised the pupils for their hard work and pupils wrote heart-warming messages to their closest friends. The whole week was the perfect opportunity to celebrate friendship and the people we care about most.

Lottie Hearn, Deputy Headteacher, said:  “I’ve had great fun organising this week’s Valentine themed focus week.  It’s been great to do some fun activities as well as deliver some important messages about friendship and self-esteem.”
