Each week teachers have the opportunity to nominate a student to be their ‘Student of the Week’ and this nomination brings a rewards of 20 House Points which adds to totals for Rewards Days and other prizes.

Parents can see when their child receives House Points – and ‘Student of the Week’ nominations – via the EduLink app.

Once per half-term we ensure that every teacher gives a ‘Student of the Week’ award and we make a big song and dance about it in school.

This time Year 11 were the stand-out year group with 39 students receiving a ‘Student of the Week’ award. Obviously, all those students attending booster sessions and working hard towards their mock exams are seeing their efforts paying off. Some of those ‘Students of the Week’ awards included Coy Payne (11G2) for Science, Henry Glas (11J2) for Geography and English and Gabi Davies-Friend (11S2) for Maths.

House-wise, Darwin and Johnson students both received 38 awards, Garrick closely followed with 35, and Seward were lagging behind with only 21 awards.

Steve Cartner, Head of Garrick House and ‘Student of the Week’ Co-Ordinator, said: “The most successful tutor groups were 9G1 and 10J1 and special mentions should go to Libbie Joyce (9G1) for collecting awards for English and History and Abigail Pinches (10J1) collected three awards – the most of any student – in Health and Social Care, Maths and English.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “This is just another reason why parents should download the EduLink app to keep themselves up-to-date with their child’s progress. If a parent is active in their engagement with their child’s progress at school then it only encourages and helps that child to even greater success. Conversely, if a parent does not take the time to check and celebrate success then there is less likelihood the child will work to do the same again in the future.”
