The dry slope at Stoke-on-Trent saw our school skiing team take part in their first competitive outing in the Regional Championships.

The event consisted of two runs over the same slalom course. The team score was the aggregate of the best three times for each run. This was followed by a dual slalom where 8 teams were picked based on the individual’s fastest time, so it meant the boys got to race in a team with students from other schools.

Year 11 student Noah Bailey was flying until his crash, he was looking the business and is putting the pain behind him to represent the school tomorrow at the indoor race in Manchester.

Elsewhere, Campbell Rowe (Y9) in his first ski event improved on every run. Meanwhile, Reece Pike (Y9) was a member of the runners up team and Fin Pike (Y7) was in the third place team.

Jamie Sleigh, co-ordinator of our Elite Performers Scheme, said: “A huge well done to the four boys who competed today and we look forward to more events and expanding our Friary ski team.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “We cannot thank parent Russ Pike enough for his involvement and for getting the team motoring. We look to support as many teams as we possibly can through our Elite Performers Scheme but capacity can be an issue so when you get a passionate and committed parent on board we count ourselves as very fortunate. The boys have done him proud.”
