Last week on Gardeners World Monty Don explained that now was the perfect time to plant Sunflower seeds. This week Seward House are launching our very own ambitious “Tallest Sunflower Competition” for the school and the wider local community.

This year Seward House is supporting The Midlands Air Ambulance. The Air Ambulance flies high to save people lives and we have a vision that this summer there are 1000 sunflowers growing high all over Lichfield to remind people of the fantastic work that The Midlands Air Ambulance do and raise money to support them in the process. Our plan is:

• Donate £1 to The Midlands Air Ambulance to enter the competition by 4th May 2018. Any form tutor in school can accept your donation
• Anybody can enter from students, families, carers, friends, local businesses etc.
• Choose to plant a seed or seedling that we can provide or source and plant your own seed
• Grow and tend to your sunflower all summer
• Email a photograph of your sunflower alongside a tape measure proving its height by 1/10/18 to sunflowers@friaryschool.co.uk
• Tallest sunflower wins a cash prize. Prizes will come from 10% of the takings of the competition. So 1000 entries = prizes of £100

Richard Havill, Head of Seward House said: “Good luck, have fun and do look out for those Sunflowers across our city this summer.
